About Chris Tompson

I have been interested in Natural Therapies for most of my adult life and began formal studies in the early 1980’s. I started my own clinic in 1986 in Northern N.S.W. In 1993, I moved my clinic to the Gold Coast.

As a Gold Coast Naturopath I operate a very busy clinic 4 days a week.

Our main aim is to work on improving a persons basic lifestyle (diet etc.) if necessary we help assist their health by prescribing only natural products that work on restoring the balance (homeostasis) in ones body without the side effects sometimes experienced with pharmaceutical products.

Over the years I have seen many “fads” come and go, some of them so called natural or alternative medicines, others extreme diets. Unbalanced in their approach, even detrimental to ones health.

Based on my clinical experience I believe that you should not be “on a diet” Over the 34 years of practise I have found that eating a clean, healthy diet which includes fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains & healthy fats is the quickest way to improve your general health.

I also feel the more organic food you can bring in to your diet the better your health will be.

Personal

On a personal level my interests are exercise, which I’ve done for the last 40 odd years, I enjoy walking on the beach, picnics  &  spending time with my 2 grown up (adult) children & my 7 grandchildren, who I try to visit as often as possible. I love to sit down with a good book, which I find relaxing after a sometimes-stressful day in the clinic. One of my passions is photography, I spend as much time in nature as possible, especially taking pictures of sunrises & sunsets.

Health

The health & well being of my family is of paramount importance to me which is why I have devoted my life to the pursuit of health & fitness based on proven scientific methods. Health is a state of complete physical, mental & social well being & not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Also we generally don’t do enough exercise, you need to set aside about 3/4 to 1 hour, 3-4 times a week for both cardio &  weight bearing exercise.

Water

Water is sadly neglected in today’s society. A large percentage of the body is made up of water. Almost all of the body’s cells need & depend on water to perform their function. Water helps to keep a normal temperature, lubricates & cushions joints, protects your spinal cord & other sensitive tissue, gets rid of waste through urination, perspiration & bowel motions. As a rule 8-10 glasses per day of spring, filtered, or alkaline water is required to avoid dehydration.

Relaxation

In today’s society stress seems to play a big role in our overall health. Relaxation therapy can be of great benefit, whether it is meditation or simple listening to a relaxation music. Not everyone enjoys the same thing & some find it difficult to just sit & switch off, that is why a moving meditation such as tai-chi, body balance classes are excellent. Yoga, walking on the beach or even working out in the gym can be a way of releasing stress. I practise meditation for 20 to 30 minutes twice daily, which I find balances out my lifestyle.
